Spiderman 2 Movie Score Review

Spiderman 2 Score

Spiderman 2 is the sequel to the box office smash hit Spiderman from 2002. The movie was released in 2004, having Sam Raimi as the director once again and most of the cast from the previous picture, while introducing Alfred Molina. The Spider-Man 2 score is also created by Danny Elfman in his already familiar fashion known from the first movie.

Spider-Man 2 continues the story of Peter Parker as Spiderman and the character is presented in a very busy period of his life. Struggling to go to school, keep a job, be a superhero and get the girl proves to be a little too much for Peter. As a result he loses his connection to his Spiderman personality and his powers start to fade. The movie score points out every bit of disappointment in Peter’s character as he begins to fail on every level.

The movie now presents two villains for Peter to overcome, as Harry Osborn (played by actor James Franco) vehemently turns against Spiderman thinking he was responsible for his father’s death. Peter’s main concern however is Doctor Octopus (or Doc Ock) who seems to overcome Spider-Man every time with the awesomeness of his metal tentacles. Elfman introduced themed melodies for these two characters, both very dramatic, to fit perfectly with their personalities.

The movie proves to be a psychological battle for Peter as he fails to decide whether to be an unfulfilled superhero or a happy young adult with less worries and a personal life. Tobey Maguire does a wonderful job at presenting the emotions of Peter as he manages to connect with every viewer. The Spiderman 2 movie score is perfectly catered to Peter’s internal battle and emotions are transmitted through sound to the public with the help of the composer.

Spider-Man 2 is a wonderful attempt at combining action with heroism and deep feelings of self-worth. The score for Spiderman 2 has been carefully thought out and is even more theatrical than the one for the first movie. For all his trials Spider-Man will still be seen by a hero by enough people to make him hope and understand his real worth, as so many count on him to be their hero. The music plays and stops for him and intensifies every scene.
