By far one of the most prolific and recognized composer of film scores, the enigmatic Ennio Morricone has become a fixture when it comes to movie music. As a composer, Morricone has been involved with many different forms of music, ranging from jazz to easy listening, but his most notable accomplishments and most remembered pieces come from the world of film. Easily the most recognizable piece of music that Ennio Morricone has written comes from the genre of westerns. The theme song from The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly is one of the most famous film scores of all time. Morricone worked on all three movies in the trilogy, including A Fistful of Dollars and For a Few Dollars More.

While Ennio Morricone has worked on hundreds of films and won many awards, there is one prize that has always slipped through his fingers. The Academy Award for Best Film Score is the single major award that the composer has never won. He has been nominated more than once, including the score for The Untouchable, but the voters have always found a score that was just a little bit better. To make up for the lack of this prestigious award, Ennio Morricone was given the Academy Honorary Award that celebrated his influence and contributions to music that is used for films.

One of the film scores that Morricone made that played a major role in the success of a movie is with The Thing, a film made by John Carpenter. As a horror movie, the film was scary, but the eerie music that served as a backdrop heightened the suspense and made it one of the best horror movies of all time.
