Hans Zimmer Provides Film Scores For Numerous Movies

The Works of Hans Zimmer

Hans Zimmer may not be a household name, but many people have encountered his works without knowing it. Zimmer is a music composer that works in the film industry, providing film scores for many movies over the years. Active for over 30 years now, he has scored at least 100 movies and won several awards along the way. Although born in Germany, Hans Zimmer has followed his career and lived both in the United Kingdom as well as the United States. Currently, he serves as the leader of film music for the DreamWorks production studios. In addition, he started his own company to handle composition work, called Remote Control Productions.

Hans Zimmer was already involved with music before he began working on films, but it was a partnership with the notable composer Stanley Myers that led to steady movie work for the musician. In the time of their partnership, the duo worked together on a number of films, including Moonlighting and The Last Emperor. In 1988, Zimmer decided to step out on his own when he was approached to make the film score for Rain Man. This first independent work earned him a nomination for the Best Film Score Academy Award, but failed to win the top spot.

Hans Zimmer finally managed to take an Academy Award for Best Film Score in 1994 for his contributions to The Lion King, a film that also took the Best Picture award. The film score was a hit and a Broadway musical was created using the same music. Later films would see Zimmer working on The Dark Knight and The Thin Red Line. In recent years, Hans Zimmer has remained active and there are several projects that bear his name as the score composer. The latest movie to garner acclaim was Inception, a science fiction thriller that was a major blockbuster hit.
