Romantic Movies Remembered for Their Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Soundtracks of Romantic Movies

Romantic movies are one of the most popular film genres, both for their stories of love and the feelings that they can evoke in viewers. Similar to the movies, an original motion picture soundtrack from one of these films can bring back the feelings experienced when seeing the movie for the first time. The tradition of the soundtracks for romantic movies go almost as far back as the genre, with some of the early examples still being top sellers today. The range of the film scores is quite diverse, from classical scores to movies that featured current pop hits of the day.

In terms of history, one of the first romantic movies that had a successful original motion picture soundtrack was the epic Gone With The Wind film from the year of 1939. The film is considered to be one of the finest examples of romantic movies and the score from Max Steiner fits the action and emotions perfectly. One example of a stellar song from the movie is Southern Belle Waltz, which is played at a critical point in the film. The character of Scarlett is supposed to be in mourning, but she dances with the charming Rhett to the sound of this song. The idea of forbidden love is captured well with the string accompaniment.

Of course, romantic movies are not limited to old classics like Casablance and Gone With The Wind. Newer releases can spark the same kind of emotional magic and original motion picture soundtrack albums have topped the sales charts many times. In particular, two recent movies that have had bestselling soundtracks include Titanic and Ghost. The first of these, Titanic, featured songs from Celine Dion. The Ghost soundtrack centered around the song Unchained Melody that was performed by The Righteous Brothers. Despite the type of song, its use in romantic movies can largely dictate the emotional connection a person has to it.
